I Lied (another long post, but more pictures!)

Remember when I said it’d be in the 60s while I was here? Well I lied, or history of Limerick weather lied to me. One way or the other. Anyways, it’s been SO hot here. It was in the 80s today and has been in the 70s every day except the first day I got here. The Irish keep saying it’s been years since they’ve had weather like this and a lot keep joking that we brought it with us. Most of the Americans think I’m crazy for being so miserable from the heat, but mostly the Irish agree with me that it’s too hot.

Another problem with the heat is that buildings here don’t seem to have air conditioning at all, and then their windows don’t have screens, so you can’t really keep them open all the time because bugs come in (especially at night). I’ve also been trying to find a place to buy a fan so that I can sleep, but they seem to be rare, and no one knows where I can get one.

I also lied about crack (that sentence amuses me greatly). I didn’t really lie, they still say it, but its spelled “craic” when it’s in the sense of fun (“That was craic!”).

Ok, no more lying. Anyway, Sunday I went shopping in Limerick with some people here and it was kind of nice. They have a store called Penny’s which has relatively cheap clothes. I had to laugh as the California print T’s they had. I also bought a McDonald’s fish meal. It was 6.60eu, which is like $9.30! And it wasn’t nearly as good!

Yesterday I met up with Jess (a friend who wanted to see Ireland before finishing her study abroad program in Wale for the semester, for those who don't know).

(Us with the statue on campus. He has no explanation, however, one student told me he’s supposedly supposed to be every body’s friend). We went down the riverbank walk and just hung out before she had to catch a ride to the airport.

After she left I went back on the walk with some other girls here. Apparently, I hate my body, and had to walk some where around 6 miles yesterday. But we climbed some savage castle ruins along the path! (Did you catch my poor attempt to use Irish slang there?)

And then we went BACK out to take pictures of the bridge at night. First, here it is during the day:

Now Night!

Today I had class again. I think my teacher just watches movies and nothing else, he knows so many(though he also seems to know a lot more about America than I so. It's kind of sad on my part). He seems to be obsessed with David Lynch, which is funny, except he keeps showing clips of movies as examples, and I don’t want to see any because I’m taking a David Lynch class next semester.

I tried a hot dog and a burger at The Stables over the last two days too. Apparently they don’t get the concepts (at least not the American concepts) because the hot dogs and burgers are both breakfast sausage (links or patties). I don’t really have a problem with it, because I like sausage, but I keep putting ketchup on them thinking it’s like our meat, and then it’s not so good.

The worst thing is we got talked to about complaints of behavior. I feel so awful about some of the things that have happened, even though I haven’t been a part of any of them. A lot of people in the program here laugh about how some of the American's have been behaving (mostly bad drunken behavior), but I feel like it’s so horrible. This school allowed us to come to its campus for an amazing experience, for no other reason than they thought it would be a good opportunity for us, and some of the people here don’t respect that at all.

Onto better things…more pictures! (since I didn’t really post any last time).

Here's Shannon River:

Those monster DNA round-a-bouts (note that if you look a little up and to the right of that main one there's another one)(also, this picture was covertly stolen from Shelby's facebook :P ):

They even have round-a-bouts on their walking paths!:

Euro. The notes (bills) are actually physically smaller as they lesson monetarily (rather than all bills being the same size). Then the coins from top to bottom are 2eu, 1eu, 50cent, 20cent, 10cent, 5cent, and 1cent.

Lastly, here's a UofM shirt I found at the store (got the pic just for you Brittany) :). I got why they had Notre Dame (The Fighting Irish), but why UofM and the Tigers? The Irish are weird.

  4. For someone who's supposed to be everybody's friend, that statue looks pretty sad.

I agree with Jess -- the bridge looks even more savage at night. :P

    Oh, Michigan.

The fish sandwich really wasn't good? Pity, I've always had the impression that the UK has better tasting fish.
